Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, accessing, or using Alia ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App. We may update these Terms from time to time, and your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of any changes.

2. Service Description

Alia is a personal reading companion app that allows you to track your reading progress, create marginalia (notes, quotes, thoughts), decorate your reading memories with stickers and photos, set reading goals, and share your reading journey.

3. Account Registration

You may use Alia anonymously or sign in with your Apple ID. If you choose to create an account:

  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account
  • You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access

4. Subscription Terms

Free Tier

The free version of Alia includes:

  • 1 book per month
  • 3 marginalia entries per book
  • 1 active book at a time
  • Basic decorations (washi tape, paper clips)

Alia Premium

The premium subscription includes:

  • Unlimited books per month
  • Unlimited marginalia per book
  • Unlimited concurrent active books
  • All premium decorations (doodles, mood stamps, sticky notes, etc.)
  • Star ratings for books
  • Photo attachments to marginalia
  • Reading journey sharing cards
  • Reading journal export

Billing

  • Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID account
  • Payment is charged at confirmation of purchase
  • Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
  • You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID Account Settings
  • No refunds are provided for partial subscription periods

5. User Content

You retain ownership of all content you create in Alia, including marginalia, notes, and uploaded photos ("User Content").

By using the App, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, display, and process your User Content solely to provide the App's services to you.

You agree not to create or upload content that:

  • Violates any laws or regulations
  • Infringes on intellectual property rights
  • Contains malicious code or harmful content
  • Is defamatory, obscene, or offensive

6. Intellectual Property

The Alia name, logo, and all original content, features, and functionality are owned by us and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Book cover images and metadata are provided by Google Books API and are the property of their respective owners.

7. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App or servers
  • Reverse engineer or decompile the App
  • Use automated systems to access the App
  • Impersonate another person or entity

8. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE APP.

10. Account Termination

You may delete your account at any time through the App's Settings. Upon deletion, all your data will be permanently removed from our servers.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in any activity that may harm the App, our users, or third parties.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Brazil, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be resolved in the courts of Brazil.

12. Affiliate Links

Alia contains affiliate links to Amazon. When you purchase products through these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Alia earns from qualifying purchases.
